Labour hosts second annual Santa’s Village with baby-food drive - 2011-11-30
Moncton – The New Brunswick Federation of Labour (NBFL) and the Moncton and District Labour Council are partnering together once again to organize their second annual Santa’s Village. It is being held at the Dieppe Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) office and includes a baby-food drive.

Organized labour reaffirms its engagement and involvement in the political process. On November 17th and 18th, the New Brunswick Federation of Labour held its biennial political education conference in Moncton.

Horizon Health Network cuts are misguided - 2011-10-25
The New Brunswick Federation of Labour is disappointed with Horizon Health Network’s decision to reduce the health services that it provides to the public. On October 19th, the health network issued a press release outlining in detail how it will cut $4.2 million in health services. The cuts include, among other things, reducing the operating hours in community health facilities in selected rural communities (Harvey, McAdam, Plaster Rock, Blacks Harbour and Minto).

NB Federation of Labour grieves the loss of Jack Layton - 2011-08-22
The New Brunswick Federation of Labour is saddened by the news that Jack Layton, the leader of the New Democratic Party of Canada, Canada’s official opposition, passed away after his brave fight with cancer at the age of 61.

Youth learn about solidarity and social justice during week-long camp - 2011-08-08
(MONCTON) Last Friday, the Blair Doucet Youth Summer Camp, organized by the New Brunswick Federation of Labour, ended on a high note, making camp counsellors proud. Like in past years, the camp ended with a mock contract negotiation where the youth negotiated with their counsellors the terms and conditions for the following year’s camp; conditions such as bed time, wakeup call and safety considerations. This year, campers voted to strike to obtain better conditions for next year’s campers.

MEDIA ADVISORY: 11th annual NBFL Blair Doucet Youth Summer Camp - 2011-08-03
From August 1 to August 5, 2011, the New Brunswick Federation of Labour is hosting its 11th annual Blair Doucet Youth Summer Camp at the Université de Moncton. This year, 24 campers, 14 girls and 10 boys, are attending the camp. They can expect learn, have fun and make friends during the week-long camp. In the mornings campers will learn about the history of the labour movement, their rights as workers and labour’s role in the broader society. In the afternoons and evenings they will discover some of the activities and attractions in the Greater Moncton area and surroundings.

Delegates set stage for next two years of work at NB Federation of Labour Convention - 2011-06-07
From Sunday May 29 to Wednesday June 1, 260 delegates met in Moncton at the New Brunswick Federation of Labour biennial Convention. The Convention’s theme was Honour the Past, Build the Future, in recognition of the organization’s 50th Convention.

National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence against Women - 2010-12-06
On December 6, 1989, 14 female engineering students at l’École Polytechnique in Montreal were murdered simply because they were women. Canadians were deeply shaken by this event; it left us sad and angry, but determined to fight for change.

Trade ministers urged to deny corporations ability to sue provincial, territorial governments - 2010-12-02
With the upcoming meeting of the Committee on Internal Trade (CIT) ministers in Saskatoon on December 3, a wide cross-section of Canadian civil society groups are urging governments to deny corporations the right to sue the provinces and territories under the Agreement on Internal Trade (AIT) as requested by a coalition of business groups this week. The groups listed below are also calling on the federal government to remove this investor-state dispute process from NAFTA and other bilateral trade treaties Canada has signed, and to refrain from including it in the proposed Canada-European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA).

Pension Summit calls for pension reform - 2010-09-13
Fredericton – In the hopes of shedding light on retirement security in New Brunswick, the New Brunswick Federation of Labour hosted a day-long Pension Summit on September 9th in Fredericton. About 100 people were in attendance. The Summit provided participants with an overview of the current situation and the reasons why pension reform is a necessity.

The Sale of NB Power: A Bad Deal for workers, their families and our communities - 2009-11-25
On October 29, 2009 Premier Jean Charest of Québec and Premier Shawn Graham of New Brunswick signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), under which Hydro-Québec would acquire most of NB Power. This MOU is not an offer and does not create any legally binding obligations of any party.

The Hatheway Trust—April 28th Monument Committee, cordially invites the general public to attend the unveiling of the maquette (model) of the April 28th “Day of Mourning” monument that will be placed outside the W. Frank Hatheway Labour Exhibit Centre at Lily Lake. The Monument is being erected to honour all workers who have been killed or injured on the job.
